Long Island History Day (LIHD), a yearlong, research-based educational program that encourages middle school and high school students to explore local, state, national, and world history. The program, highly regarded by Long Island public and private schools alike, culminates in a regional competition..  Students from across Long Island will select a historical topic that relates to the annual theme, and conduct extensive research by using libraries, archives, museums and oral history interviews.  The students analyze and interpret their findings, draw conclusions about their topics’ significance in history, and create final projects in one of five different categories: Historical Paper, Documentary, Performance, Website or Exhibit.  This year the students will upload their final projects which will then be evaluated, based on specific criteria, by judges comprised of professional historians and educators.

Final entries are due before midnight on March 3, 2021. Winning projects that will advance to the New York State History Day competition and all final results will be announced on March 26th. Winners from the state competition will be eligible to represent New York at the National History Day competition in College Park, Maryland.
